Defeating Newcastle, Erik ten Hag Dedicates MU's Victory to Fans

Worldspornews. Even though it has been a season to forget for Manchester United, coach Erik ten Hag says he remains positive after his important win against Newcastle.

Man United beat Newcastle in the postponed match in Week 34 of the 2023/24 Premier League. Playing at Old Trafford, Thursday (16/5/2024) early morning WIB, the home team won with a score of 3-2.

The Red Devils' winning goals were scored by Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund. Meanwhile, the Magpies were only able to respond through Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall.

With this victory, Man United remains eighth in the standings, equaling Newcastle's 57 points who are seventh in the race for a place in Europe next season.

A Win for Fans
Man United's win in their last home game felt like a gift to the fans who have endured one of the worst home seasons in the club's history, and Ten Hag thanked the fans.

"We want to thank them for sticking with us, we are in difficult times," he said.

"We are in a transition period at this club and the results are not what we expected. We have our reasons too, but it is still a disappointing season.

"I'm very happy [with the win against Newcastle]. In the last few months we've had a lot of games where we were in a winning position but we couldn't finish them off."

Take the Positive Side
However, Ten Hag still sees the positive side of the roller coaster season that Man United is currently undergoing. According to him, he believes that his squad still has a lot of potential that can be developed.

"I see the positive side, I see that the team is improving, I know the reasons why we are not performing well," said Ten Hag.

"No team will perform well when all the [injured] defenders are not available, all season long.

"Even striker Rasmus Hojlund, three times injured, [Marcus] Rashford also injured, so we had problems throughout the season and that had a negative impact on the results.

"[But] you see the players playing and you see the players developing like the young players and that is very positive, there is high potential at this club. So, there are many positive things in this season, but I can't mention them."

MU hopes to appear in Europe
Man United's hopes of competing in Europe are still not overly closed. They have a chance to win the FA Cup, if Ten Hag's troops are able to beat Man City, they will play in the Europa League next season.

However, if Man City wins, Man United must finish seventh to secure a place in the Europa League.

The Red Devils, who have never finished below seventh in the Premier League, play at Brighton on Sunday.
